David – 2024 Recipient

David is 17 years old and he is a friendly and protective older brother from Jordan, Minnesota. With two younger brothers, David’s nurturing side shines through. When not writing creatively or enjoying computer games, he’s passionate about weightlifting.

In April 2019, David’s life took a challenging turn when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a highly aggressive form of cancer that develops from mesenchymal cells that have failed to fully differentiate into myocytes of skeletal muscle. David faced several surgeries and endured months of grueling chemotherapy, MRI’s, CT scans, countless X-rays, and ultrasounds.

Despite these immense challenges, David persevered with unwavering support from his parents, siblings, relatives across the country and close friends by his side. The treatment left David with significant impacts to his health, causing debilitating neuropathy in his legs and feet, requiring braces for him to walk. David is now in remission, but continues to be monitored regularly.
